‘Murdered’ Odisha Youth Returns Home After 18 Months While 2 Accused Have Served Jail Term

Bargarh: In one way negligence in criminal investigation while on the other, no less than a miracle for a family, a youth from Pipilipali village under Paikmal police limits here returned home after about 18-month of his murder.


Jeetu Dandsena went missing on December 25, 2016 following which his family members lodged a missing complaint with Paikmal police after they failed to trace him. The police launched an investigation and concluded that Jeetu was murdered.

Acting on the complaint, police had arrested two people, Halu Gula (22) and Raghav Nayak (22) on October 22, 2017 on charges of killing Jitu and had seized Jitu’s mobile phone from the accused duo. The two have now spent about 12 months in jail.

Retrenched Cargill India Company Workers Continue Protest On Day 2 In Paradip

Paradip: Despite worse weather conditions, the retrenched workers of Cargill India Company along with their families braved rain and thunderstorm for an entire night under open sky continuing their protest before the main gate of Adani Wilmar Ltd here on Thursday.


Even after several efforts were made by the district administration on Wednesday evening to resolve the dispute, no solution came out. As many as 152 workers of the company and their families squatted in protest demanding jobs at the Adani Wilmar Ltd.

The workers were retrenched from their jobs after the company shut down following losses in 2016. After it was recently taken over by Adani Wilmar Ltd, none of the retrenched workers were reinstated.

Odisha Dengue Death Toll Rises To 7, Rayagada Youth Latest Victim

Rayagada: A 19-year-old boy died of dengue fever while undergoing treatment at a private hospital of Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday evening.


The deceased has been identified as M Ravi Kumar of Sulava village in Rayagada. He was staying at the Railway colony here to pursue his studies.

Reportedly, Ravi was admitted to the Rayagada District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) on July 8 after he complained of severe headache and fever. But later was shifted to a private hospital in Vishakhapatnam on July 10 where he succumbed to the deadly disease while undergoing treatment.

Odisha: Imposters Arrested By Special Squad In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: On the basis of specific inputs the Special Squad of Commissionerate of Police on Tuesday detained two persons who were allegedly impersonating as the employees of a leading cellular company, and conducting fake interviews. The duo were staying in at a local hotel here at Mancheswar.


During interrogation they confessed the involvement of other persons, who were apprehended on Kuakhai bridge. They were trying to escape in an SUV which was fitted with a blue beacon and Govt of India sign board.

The culprits also wielded firearms at the police but were overpowered. One country made pistol, two live ammunition, one air gun, one sword, a knife and a base ball stick along with the SUV were seized.

Man Held For Throwing Infant Daughter Into Well In Odisha

Angul: A man was today arrested on charges of killing his 13-day old daughter by throwing her into an abandoned well at Chhanchunia village under Khamar police limits in the district.


The accused identified as Dusashan Sahoo confessed to his crime during police interrogation after body of the girl, who was missing since July 6, was recovered from the well.

“I already have a daughter and despite all my attempts a second daugther was born to my wife. I being the sole bread earner for my family and toiling hard as a driver was troubled how I will bring up two daughters. Amidst all the stress I took the child when none were at home and threw her in the well,” said Dusashan.

World Population Day 2018: Odisha Only State To Roll Out Family Planning LMIS To All Blocks

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is the only state in India where the Family Planning Logistics Management Information System (FPLMIS) has been rolled out to all blocks in the State and the State is planning to make it fully operational up to the sub-centre level by the end of 2019.


This was stated in a factsheet released by the State Health and Family Welfare Department on the occasion of World Population Day 2018.

It has been further stated, “Odisha through a concerted effort of Health & Family Welfare Department has been able to reduce the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) to 2.0 (SRS 2016) from a TFR of 2.2 (AHS 2012-13) whereas the TFR for the country is 2.3 (SRS 2016).”

In 2009, he joined the BJD and won the assembly elections from Jayadev constituency. He was also the Transport and Corporation Minister in the BJD-BJP alliance government then.

Polavaram: ‘Stop Work Order’ Further Kept In Abeyance By Centre Favouring Andhra Sparks Off Reactions In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Despite Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s letter to the Union Environment, Forest & Climate Change Minister on June 3, 2018 complaining against the Centre’s practice of ‘Stop Work Order’ being repeatedly kept in abeyance in a bid to favour Andhra Pradesh, the same repetition on July 10, 2018 has ignited ire in Odisha.


The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change in his recent office memorandum mentions, “Now, in pursuance of request made by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as well as Ministry of Water Resources, RD & GR, this ‘Stop Work Order’ dated 8.2.2011, is further kept in abeyance for a period of one more year with effect from 3.7.2018 9i.e. from 3.7.2018 to 2.7.2019) subject to the same terms and conditions as mentioned in the aforesaid OM dated 23.06.2015.”

Ex-Congress MLA Dusmanta Naik To Join BJD On July 13

Bhubaneswar: Former Congress MLA of Bhawanipatna constituency resigned from the party today and has announced to join BJD along with his supporters on July 13.


“With due respect due to my personal problem, I have resigned from the party and also membership from today Dt. 11.07.2018 [SIC],” stated Naik in his resignation letter addressed to the OPCC president.

After tendering his resignation he announced that on request of his followers and supporters, he will be joining BJD on July 13.
