SAI Olympics Inaugurated At SAI International School

Bhubaneswar: The 7th edition of SAI Olympics, the annual sports event of SAI International School commenced here on Thursday. Chief Guest Premananda Nayak, Minister, Skill Development and Technical Education, Government of Odisha and Guest of Honour Olympian Athlete Dutee Chand inaugurated the event and declared it open by hoisting the SAI Olympics Flag.

The 3-day event commenced in the Pele Sports Complex on a vibrant and euphoric note. The event started with salutation from all the four houses in a regimented march past to the exhilarating beats of the School band. It was followed by a spectacular torch rally. Finally, the Oath taking ceremony was conducted.

Speaking on the occasion, Nayak highlighted the importance of sports and said that sports prepare a child to become a complete individual. He encouraged students to participate in various sporting events and make it an integral part of their life.

Tread On Gandhi's Path, Practise Ahimsa Odisha CM Exhorts Youths

Bhubaneswar: ‘Ahimsa’ is the most important teaching to the world which originated in India. It was Ahimsa which made our freedom struggle unique, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Addressing the second meeting of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birth Anniversary Committee at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, Naveen said, Ahimsa leads to peace, development and equality. He urged the youths to adopt the preaching of the Mahatma in their day-to-day lives.

Mahatma Gandhi’s doctrine of Ahimsa said that poverty and social injustice are the biggest form of violence. According to Gandhiji, freedom is meaningless till the time people of our country remain poor,” said Naveen.

Poverty cannot be eliminated without Ahimsa. By defeating the forces which divide the country on the basis of caste, religion and colour we can progress, added Naveen.

Youth’s Body Found In Sundergarh, Murder Suspected

Sundergarh: A youth’s bloodied body was found today morning in a forest cover close to Kendrikala under Bonai police limits of Sundergarh district.

The deceased has been identified as Anil Munda (27) who is said to hail from Bonaigarh. While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the youth has been murdered.

A few locals had spotted the body and informed the local police. The Police, upon arriving retrieved the body and sent it for autopsy. They also found a few liquor bottles, stick and a motorcycle.

Panthanivas, The New Destination For Weddings, This Season

Bhubaneswar: With a view to boost tourist inflow to the State, the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) in view of the ensuing wedding season has introduced ‘Destination Wedding Package’ at select Panthanivases located in the lap of nature.

In the first phase, the package will be available in six Panthanivases at Gopalpur, Rambha, Konark, Puri, Chandipur, and Barkul.

Under the programme both domestic and foreign tourists can get marriages of their children or friends organized at the aforementioned Panthanivases.

As per the provisions available in the package OTDC will take care of the wedding right from ‘mehendi rasam’, decoration, marriage ceremony, videography, cultural programme and pleasure trips to nearby places.

Eight-Year-Old Raped Inside Bhadrak School Toilet, Main Accused Arrested

BhadrakA man was arrested today on charges of raping an eight-year-old inside a school’s toilet at Mirghaat village under Dhusuri police limits here.

The horrific incident occurred yesterday and based on a complaint lodged by minor’s father the main accused was arrested. The accused has been identified as Sashikant Mallick (22).

As per reports, Mallick forcibly took the survivor into the school’s toilet during the games period and raped her. The minor immediately informed her parents who then lodged a complaint at the local police station.

Sridhar Patra Takes Over As NALCO CMD

Bhubaneswar: Sridhar Patra, Director (Finance) of NALCO took charge as the next CMD of the Navratna PSU and will hold the position till October 31, 2014. He took over upon superannuation of the incumbent CMD Tapan Kumar Chand.

Patra was with THDC India Ltd as the Director (Finance). He comes with a rich experience of over 30 years covering various Public Sector Undertakings like Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd., Indian Rare Earths Ltd. and Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd (a subsidiary of ONGC Ltd.).

A graduate in Commerce from Utkal University, Patra is a Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He completed his MBA (HRD) from Vidya Sagar University and has contributed as an academician apart from his professional employment in PSUs.

Odisha CM Pays Homage to Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo

BhubaneswarTaking to Twitter, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid homage to the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo, the erstwhile king of Mayurbhanj State of British India, on his birth anniversary.

Tweeting in Odia, CM Naveen says, “My humble tributes to the flagbearer of Odia Bhasa Andolan and the formation of the state of Odisha- Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo. His magazines ‘Utkal Prabha’ and ‘Manorama’ not only helped in highlighting the Odia literature but also helped in the upliftment of the society.

Maharaja Bhanjdeo was known as a philosopher-king. Apart from several philanthropical work, he was also a torchbearer who worked towards promotion of Odia language and formation of state of Odisha post-independence.

He attained at the throne of Mayurbhanj at the age of eleven and in his next 30 years he wholeheartedly dedicated for development of his state. The erstwhile Maharaja constituted the state council for administration in the state and brought about reforms in the sphere of language, health and administration.

Married Woman 'Gang-Raped' In Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna: A married woman has lodged an FIR at Sadar Police Station in Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi district alleging she was gang-raped by three persons at a secluded place near Gobara village.

Based on the complaint, the prime accused Jhasketan Nag and his two accomplices Laxmikant Nag and Kishore Chandra Mahalik have been booked under section 376D, 394, 294, 506 and 34 of IPC and sent for medical examination.

As per the FIR, the woman’s husband, who works as a bonded labourer in Goa, had sent some money and other items in the hands of Jhasketan to give her. She had also been asked by her husband to withdraw some money from ATM with the help of the accused.

Accordingly, she went with Jhasketan to withdraw the money but the latter had already informed the other two accused about his plan and on reaching Gobara Chhak they forcibly took her to a secluded place and raped her.

Muslims To Take Out Silent Rally Against CAA In Bhubaneswar Today

Bhubaneswar: Members of the Muslim community accompanied by practitioners of other faiths including Hindus will take out a peace rally here in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) tomorrow.

The protestors holding black ribbons have planned to march in silence from the Satya Nagar Masjid at 11 AM demanding revocation of the CAA.

The peace rally by silent marchers will culminate at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence-Naveen Niwas.

The recent passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in both Houses of Parliament and with Presidential assent becoming a law -CAA is against the Constitution of India. It’s against Article 14 of the Constitution of India. There are protests against this across India. It is not only Muslims who are protesting. Hindus, Christians, Sikhs-people of Hindustan are protesting. This is nothing Muslim, it’s about the people of the country,” said Mufti Mohammad Jamal Qasmi, Imam Mancheswar Masjid talking to reporters here.

Indian Idol Participant Hospitalised In Bhadrak Receives Rs 50,000 CMRF Cheque

Bhadrak: The Indian Idol participant who is undergoing treatment at Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after meeting an accident received Rs 50,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) on Wednesday.

The patient identified as Jagabandhu Jena of Govindpur in Bhadrak had auditioned for the recent Indian Idol singing competition. He was handed over a cheque of the said amount by Bhadrak Collector in Charge, Shyama Bhakta Mishra.

It is worthwhile to mention that Secretary Transformation and Initiatives (5T) VK Pandian had paid a surprise visit to the hospital on Tuesday. He had met Jena and assured that the government will bear his expenses.
