Pick-Up Van Carrying Ganja Worth Rs 2.5 Crore Seized In Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: A pick-up van carrying about 500 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.5 crore along with a ganja packing machine have been seized from Jaduguda forest area under Malkangiri police station limits here on Monday.


The seized vehicle bears registration number: CG 04 JA 8535.

Reportedly, the ganja was smuggled from Malkangiri to Chhattisgarh. During the seizure, the accused fled from the spot and a search operation is on to nab them.

Odisha Gangster Tito’s 8 Cuttack Conduits Fall Into STF Net

Bhubaneswar: As the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) has tightened up its noose against arrested notorious gangster Tito alias Syed Usman Ali, the STF sleuths have rounded up eight of his aides from Cuttack city.


All the eight Tito associates are now under the scanner of the STF and their marathon interrogation is on, STF sources revealed.

All the eight persons are allegedly linked with the infamous Tito gang so far illegal tender fixing, extortion and murder cases are concerned.

8 Goa-Returned Odia Migrant Workers Affected With Unknown Disease

Balasore: Eight migrant workers of Odisha’s Balasore district were affected by an unknown disease following which they have been admitted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital after being treated at local hospital here.


The afflicted migrant workers are from Bhograi and were working at a fast food stall in Goa.

They are being treated in an isolated ward at SCB as the disease they are suffering from might be contagious

Several Schools Shut In Twin City Due To Incessant Rains

Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: The first doses of torrential rains of the current monsoon kept on lashing incessantly since Sunday night following which several schools in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar had to be shut down declaring it a rainy day.


As foretold by the Regional Meteorological Centre here, the low-pressure-triggered heavy down pour got initiated on Rath Yatra Day last weekend (Saturday). But, after a temporary lull on Saturday and Sunday, it got accentuated since Sunday night.

Not only most of the schools in the twin city, but also schools in other places across Odisha had also to be shut down due to such an inclement weather condition, reports said.

As per reports, Cuttack district administration on the day declared holiday for schools in the millennium city due to the incessant rain as the old capital city of Odisha is often plagued with water-logging following rains even for a short while let alone incessant and heavy downpour.

Odisha: Supersonic Cruise Missile BrahMos Test-Fired From Chandipur

Balasore: India’s supersonic cruise missile BrahMos was test fired at 10.18 am from Chandipur range launch pad here today under extreme conditions.


The test was conducted in order to increase the longevity of its life. The previous test firing of BrahMos cruise missile was conducted on May 21 and was launched from a mobile launcher from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur under life extension program.

BrahMos is the first Indian missile whose life has been extended from 10 to 15 years. The Indian Army has already inducted three regiments of BrahMos in its arsenal. All are equipped with Block-III version of the missile. The land-attack version of BrahMos has been in operation in the Indian Army since 2007.

Nice To Be Pan-Indian: Nandita Das On Being Conferred Odia Honour

New Delhi: Actress, filmmaker and activist Nandita Das, who will on Friday be among six people to receive the Prabasi Odia Samman, says she feels deeply connected to her roots in Odisha and that she finds it good to be pan-Indian.


Nandita will be conferred the award at New Delhi-based think tank Odisha Forum’s annual function at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.

“While I never lived in Odisha, my father has instilled in me his own passion for Odia food, craft, arts and culture. In my childhood, I went to Odisha every single year. So while I feel like a global citizen, I still feel deeply connected to my roots in Odisha,” Nandita said in a statement.

Odisha: Kendrapara Municipality Ex-Councillor Deposes Before STF For Alleged Links With Gangster Tito

Bhubaneswar: As the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) has tightened up its noose in a bid to delve into the crime world of arrested gangster Tito alias Syed Usman Ali of Kendrapara, scores of persons are being summoned for interrogation to unearth Tito’s unholy nexus and vicious circle.


As a part of the ongoing rigorous interrogation of both Tito, now on remand, and the persons having alleged links with his nefarious activities, one Hijbul Rehman was summoned today and deposed before the STF here.

Rehman is a former councilor of Kendrapara Municipality. On Thursday, the STF sleuths interrogated one Bapu Parida of port city Paradip with regard to his alleged association with Tito’s gang. As per STF sources, there are more than 25 cases against Parida including murder, attempt to murder and rioting. He heads the Nirakar Dumper Association in the port city with a large fleet of heavy vehicles, construction firm supplies and chips contracts under its kitty.

Bhubaneswar: Adding another feather to its cap, Odisha’s capital city-cum-temple city has now carved a niche internationally for being the Top 50 Smart City Governments.


Singapore-based Eden Strategy Institute on July 9, 2018 (Monday) unveiled the rankings of the Top 50 Smart City Governments globally.

Smart City Bhubaneswar notches the 32nd rank in tie with Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.

As per the report published on Monday, “Six Indian cities emerged among the Top 50 Smart City Governments with smart city plans co-created with citizens, and supported by systematically-planned and mobilized budgets from the central government since 2015.”
