Odisha Govt Constitutes State Commission for Backward Classes

Bhubaneswar: The State Government today constituted Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes under the Chairmanship of Justice Raghunath Biswal, Former Judge Orissa High Court.

The other members of the Commission are — Prof Navneeta Rath, Prof Mitali Chinara and Dr Prasanna Kumar Patra. Senior IAS officer, VV Yadav has been nominated as Member Secretary of the Commission.

The State Government has constituted the Commission in accordance with the provisions contained in the Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes Act 1993.

Justice Biswal who is the Chairman of the new Commission was a former Judge of the Odisha High Court. Earlier, he had also served as President State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission from November 2012 to March 2017.

Odisha Six Lane Parallel Road Between Jaydev Vihar & Patia To Ease Traffic Congestion

Bhubaneswar: Ambulances in Bhubaneswar will be equipped with GPS locators which will send a feed to the Smart City control centre. The feed will be directed to the traffic police which can accordingly vacate the route for the ambulances. This system will be put in place soon by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited in collaboration with Commissionerate of Police.

While the Capital City has been expanding significantly in length and breadth, the number of vehicles has also multiplied manifold. Worst affected are the emergency vehicles, which get stuck in traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar.

A five-year-old died on Tuesday while he was being shifted from Capital Hospital to a private medical college in Patia. The mishap took place allegedly due to a traffic jam.

While traffic problem in Bhubaneswar has taken shape of a menace, the Commissionerate of Police is mooting innovative methods to make way for ambulances.

While the public and men on duty are being regularly sensitised to facilitate a vacant lane for the emergency vehicles, there are plans to build six-lane road (three-lane each) on either side of the road connecting Jaydev Vihar and Patia square. The work on this project will begin in a couple of weeks, said Traffic DCP, Sagarika Nath.

Mo Sarkar Impact 7 Arrested For Black-Marketing Blood In Odisha’s Kalahandi Odisha News

Bhawanipatna: The success stories of Mo Sarkar’s impact have been many. One such story comes from Kalahandi where seven people were arrested on charges of black-marketing blood in Dharmagarh hospital. Two lab technicians, five middlemen with a cache of cash were arrested.

Keeping a watchful eye on the doctors posted in government hospitals, Kalahandi Collector Parag Harshad Gavali made a surprise visit to Dharamgarh Sub-division hospital on Tuesday. While interacting with patients, one of them complained of black-marketing ring at the blood bank of the hospital.

Briefing the media SP said, “The prime objective of the Mo Sarkar was to weed out any middlemen and bring government closer to the people. It has been an ongoing process and during one such drive, we came to know about the discrepancies in the Dharmagarh hospital. A quick investigation led to the subsequent arrest of seven people- two lab technician and five middlemen.

Puri: A huge congregation of crowd turned out on the beaches of Chandrabhaga to take a holy dip in the sea and welcome the rising Sun with prayers on the auspicious occasion of ‘Magha Saptami’ on Saturday.

Thousands of pilgrims took a dip in the sacred waters at Chandrabhaga with the age-old belief that it would cleanse them of skin diseases and wash away their sins.

Phulbani: A student from Phulbani, pursuing MBBS in China, was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, today after he developed symptoms of the Coronavirus disease.

The student, who came home in Phulbani on January 11 from China, a few days after the outbreak of the disease, has been suffering from cold, cough and chest congestion since then.

Learner Licence/ Driving Licence Process To Be Paperless From Feb 1

Bhubaneswar: From February 1, the applicants for the learners licence and driving licence need not submit paper documents like printed application form, declaration form, slot booking slip, fee payment receipt and photocopies of ID/ age/ address proof and blood group report, as per a tweet by the State Transport Authority of Odisha.

Informing about the step, Transport Commissioner cum Chairman State Transport Authority Sanjeeb Panda said, “The applicants can upload documents of age and address proof on Paarivahan Sewa and the data will be stored on NIC platform.

Police Commissionerate Releases Special Helpline Numbers For Women In Distress

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police today released helpline numbers which the women of the twin cities can use in case of distress.

DCP (Traffic) Sagarika Nath released the numbers. Apart from standard 100, women can dial 0674-2543541 and 9437581575. They can also Whatsapp to 9437571875.

This is in compliance to the Commissionerate of Police’s decision to check crime against women in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. In December 2019, the Police Commissionerate had decided to appoint working women as Special Police Officers.

Berhampur: Secretary Transformation and Initiatives (5T) VK Pandian today paid a visit to the Taratarini Temple here to monitor and survey the development work of the temple.

The senior IAS officer was accompanied by District Collector Vijay Amrut Kulange and the visit mostly entailed discussed about the infrastructural facilities and public utilities available here. Upliftment of the Rushikulyas River and its surrounding is also on the cards, said sources.

Giving the dignitaries a tour of the temple premises, temple servitor Bapuji Ranna explained all the issues to the Secretary. It is expected that the famous Taratarini Temple may get a facelift and transformation in the coming days. District PD DRDA Siddharth Shankar Swain was also present during the discussion.

Bhubaneswar:  After working out on the Chief Minister’s clarion call to give a facelift to Puri Jagannath Temple and Bhubaneswar’s Lingaraj temple, senior officials of the State Government, led by Secretary, Transformation and Initiatives (5T), VK Pandian are now focussing on the world-famous Sun Temple in Konark.

In this course, the 5T Secretary today visited Konark and surveyed the peripheral areas of the Black Pagoda (Sun Temple). Pandian was accompanied by Works Secretary, Dr Krishan Kumar, Puri Collector Balwant Singh and a core team of officials from Bhubaneswar and Puri.

Pursuing his trademark style, Pandian made it sure that he visited Konark during the wee hours of the day when the tourist flow was yet to commence. The 5T Secretary showed up on the premises of the Sun Temple with his team at around 5 am.

He took a tour of the temple, interacted with officials, reviewed ongoing minor and major projects and then concluded his trip visiting the beachside at Chandrabhaga.
